Two Months Down Fitness Update

So last month I shared some exciting news. I exceeded my goal to lose 1 lb per week and lost 7 lbs in 4 weeks. Yay!

This month my progress is different. On the day that marks two months down, I've managed to lose... 7 lbs. :(

At first I felt pretty disappointed. Every time I got on the scale, I found very little to no progress in weight loss. I normally check once every two weeks, but found myself checking a little more often in hopes that I was being deceived and I really have lost more weight.

I then had to remind myself that weight isn't the only measure of progress. I feel good for one. An increase in regular activity is a great way to get more energy, sleep better and fight anxiety and depression. AND, and this is a big and, I've noticed a reduction in my waist line.

My work pants were starting to be too tight to be comfortable. I was on the cusp of going up a pant size. This, plus the approach of my scary weight number, was making me depressed.

This month, I have noticed that my work pants are back to being comfortable. I can actually pull them away from my belly instead of having them stretched tight. I have also gone a notch down on my belt that I wear with jeans. Also, my pajama pants, which I bought to be loose and comfy, are starting to be too big!

This is fantastic! I am definitely pleased with these results.

Let's review My Fitness Goals and look towards the next month.

Manage Food Consumption

I have been doing good on keeping track of Calories. I have stayed below my goal most days. There have been a few exceptions.

With my stepson in town, I've been a little off with managing my food intake. We've been really into eating frozen yogurt. So although I have been managing Calories, I've been lax with fats and sugars.

I also feel I could reduce my portions a little more. Perhaps substitute more food with vegetables and fruit.

Exercise

I have been a little loose on the exercise too. Instead of coming home and immediately going for a jog/walk, I've been wanting to spend time with my stepson. I have been going for a jog/walk on the weekends though, unless we plan to go out.

I feel like we haven't been as active this year as last year. In the past years, we have been very touristy with my stepson, going to all the museums and tourist attractions. This year, we have been a little more low key, so far.

I think this last month we are going to work on squeezing in as much fun activities as possible. We went to Fort Casey this past Saturday. We are going to go back to the Boeing Museum of Flight. We want to do some swimming or go to Wild Waves (a local water park). And lastly we are going on a long weekend trip to Waldron Island where my brother, sister-in-law and nephew live.

I know that I need to learn to balance exercise when I have a kiddo around... since I am planning on having kiddos of my own. BUT, we only have him for 8 weeks, so it is extremely important to us to squeeze as much quality time with him as possible.

Drink Water Consistently

Again, like last month, I do better at work than at home on the weekend. I have cut back on soda though.
I had a Coke a weekend or two ago and just felt disappointed in myself. I think I am finally at a place where I can decide to quit drinking soda. Yay!

I have a Klean Kanteen Stainless Steel Bottle (affiliate link) that I carry with me everywhere. Eight 8 ounces equates to 2.5 of my water bottle. I love this water bottle. It's purple! And it has a wide mouth that is perfect for slipping in ice cubes when its hot.

Be a Positive Role Model

I think I've slipped a bit on all of my goals this month. I know I am still being a good role model though. If it were up to my fiance, him and my step kiddo would spend all day, all summer on the couch playing video games and watching shows or movies.

We walked to the park last weekend (at my insistence) and threw the Frisbee around. I challenged my step kiddo to a race. He beat me outright. My fiance was floored.

"How can you guys run?" As he was out of breath following us at a walk.

I told him I only challenged him to a race because I know how important it is for him to run and get exercise. He loved going to the park and wasn't ready to leave when we were.

A few days later, my fiance and stepson were at home together. They decided to walk to the park just the two of them and play basketball.

"We didn't just play Horse, too. We actually ran around and dribbled."

Yay! So I am being a positive role model! :D

  1. Hey sweetie, Just dropping by to check on you:)) I kinda hit a plateau also, the body just doesn't wish to let go of it's extra cushion, LOL! So I added additional cardio to my workout. I started swimming laps and now the weight is going down again. I think that ever so often our bodies get used to our workout and we have to shake it up:)) Have to be sneaky, cause my body is smart! LOL

    1. Hey, Evelyn! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I think I've been a little to laid back on the exercise. I really need to rededicate myself. It's hard when my stepson is in town. We only have him for eight weeks, so we just want to spend every last minute with him. I need to get a little more sneaky to one up my body. ;)

Hope you are having a wonderful week! Hugs!

  2. Keep it up, Beth! Congrats on losing weight, but don't get discouraged. Our bodies actually acclimate to exercise, so sometimes that is why we stop losing weight (I gained about 60 lbs when I was pregnant). Myfitnesspal was a great app that really helped me lose a lot of weight. My husband just lost 25 lbs using it! Good luck, you can do it :)

  3. You are doing GREAT, Bethany! I'm so impressed that you're sticking to it! And the measurements are way more important than the number on the scale, and how you feel is most important! Have fun on all your excursions with your stepson! I bet he is having a blast with you guys!

    1. He is so much fun! I wish we had him longer. :( I'll find some time to post some pictures from our outings, but it will most likely be after he is gone. We are jamming in as much time as possible with him.

  4. That's great! Keep going, Bethany. I have started walking/jogging too. I still need to get rid of some baby fat from when I was pregnant. And that was years ago!
Watching what I eat is proving so difficult, especially since I blog about food. But exercise makes you feel so good, right?!
    Sending you lots of luck,
    Anjana.

    1. I'm trying to get myself in shape before we start popping out some kiddos. I just know its going to be harder after kids. And being a food blogger must make it extra tough! Exercise definitely feels good. Thank you and good luck to you too! Have a great weekend!

    1. I've always loved walking. I can't stand the thought of being cooped up in a gym when I could be outside, so walking/jogging was my natural thing to turn to for exercise. Thanks for reading, friend!
